We Were OPEN in 2020

Camp Modin was proud to have opened in 2020, and with the safety of our community a top priority, we successfully provided our campers with an unforgettable summer experience.

Grateful Parents

Praise for Camp Modin on opening camp in 2020

Many of our current families would be delighted to speak with you to share their experiences.

I had been trying to figure out how I could possibly thank you, Lisa, Samara and everyone who made this summer possible. At 10 and 7, my girls don’t fully understand the magnitude of what they were a part of this summer. As we deal with their lingering camp-sickness, we’ve been saying a lot how they are “the luckiest kids in the world.” But Kevin and I know that luck had nothing to do with it. You guys made the “impossible” possible this summer. Not by luck or blind determination, but through truly exceptional leadership: proactive and meticulous planning, clear communication, a steadfast vision, and an unwavering belief in the value of your mission. We are so grateful to have found Camp Modin and all of you. Thank you for giving our kids a summer, and for all the joy that you have brought to our family. We look forward to celebrating your 100th year with you.

Shari & Jacob S.

Words can’t begin to express how grateful we are for the amazing summer you gave our boys. Every time I woke up to photos of kids being kids, it brought tears to my eyes. It was incredible to watch as you researched and worked to find the way to safely bring our kids to camp. Your transparency through the process was so reassuring. We never had a doubt that our boys were coming if you were opening. Now, after 5 fun-filled weeks I am looking at two very happy kids today. Thank you for giving them the time to be children and have carefree fun. Facing the uncertainty of the school year will be so much easier knowing Modin is the light at the end of the tunnel. This year’s countdown will be more meaningful than ever. We are forever grateful for your hard work.

I have no words to express how happy and emotional, special, beautiful this morning service was for me and my family. It was a mixture of feelings not just talking about the emotions of seeing my son Elie and those kids up there to celebrate their bat/bar mitzvah, it was strong, magical and a feeling that we are indeed all together no matter what. You hard work and effort to have the camp opening in the middle of pandemic is priceless. What you are giving to my kids and to us it is not just another summer camp with their friends, you gave them hope, life, light in the end of the tunnel, and most important when you believe and have faith you can make things happen no matter what. Milla and Elie will be thankful for the rest of their life for being there this summer. Thank you, thank you, thank you… Kol Hakavod

Thank you Camp Modin! This will be a summer our son will never forget. We are so grateful for your courage to make it happen this summer and putting the needs of our children above everything else.

Our daughters got home last night with tears in their eyes filled with mixed emotions, full of excitement for being home but so saddened for having to say goodbye to their Modin family. We are so grateful to you for giving the children a piece of normalcy in the midst of all the craziness and for keeping them safe. Saying thank you is not enough for an amazing summer 2020 and for all the time and effort you put into it to make it an unforgettable one.

My husband and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You were thoughtful and brave and pulled off something that most camps wouldn’t dare. We are so grateful for giving our son a meaningful summer. You allowed our son and so many children with an opportunity to have a summer like no other! With sincere appreciation and love.

I am writing this letter to thank you for having the wherewithal and the courage to open Camp Modin this summer of 2020. Early spring, nobody knew when this current pandemic would end and still nothing has changed. Yet, with a watchful eye on all that CDC suggested following every precaution and then some, you brought Camp Modin back to life. I would like to share with you that whatever your decision (to open or not), our family had maintained complete trust and confidence that should you choose to open, you would do so in the safest way possible. Not surprisingly, you certainly have not proven us wrong. Obviously the effort to maintain the strictest requirements that was and still exists in keeping everyone healthy and joyful, I am sure has not been an easy task.

During this horrific time in our world, you have opened up a private oasis to five hundred plus of innocent children and young adults who (in the real world) have to endure the hardships of living daily with masks and social distancing during these important “social” years in their lives. Each person in your camp has been afforded a gift to experience bliss, calm and a we-deserved break. I know this for certainty from my daughter’s own exuberance with which she has shared continuously with me. It is very possible that this memorable summer in their lives could likely help give them the needed strength to calmly face the ongoing challenges that lie before us.

Howie and Lisa, as wonderful role models, you have shown our young how even against all odds, one can prevail. Thank you for your care, your love and your obvious concern to make this magical summer become a reality for everyone (parents alike).

Rebekah & Michael J.

We just wanted to say thank you as we are a new family. We have been in awe of the incredible summer you and your team have provided our daughter Gracie. I would say thank you for taking a risk, but it didn’t feel risky to us. It felt like an incredibly well-detailed & thoughtful plan. We are forever indebted to you all for providing our children with a sense of normalcy during this pivotal time. Many of your campers are returning to virtual school and limited sport activities-I think camp memories will help get them through the rest of this year. I have no doubt you will become a model for the other summer camps that were unable or unwilling to do what Modin did.

It is with joy and gratitude that I sign my children up for another beautiful summer at Camp Modin. We will never know for certain the exact ways this past summer has affected my children, but I can make some solid guesses. Aside from a window of normalcy in a crazy wild moment, and aside from the confidence and independence camp always breeds, my kids learned what a society can accomplish when people work together under excellent leadership. Thanks for these and so many more gifts. See you next summer.
