Shabbat Shalom!

Yesterday was a very special day at Camp Modin! After breakfast the whole camp gathered together at our picturesque Bima overlooking Salmon Lake to commemorate the B’nai Mitzvah of 22 campers who were unable to celebrate their B’nai Mitzvah in-person this spring. In the company of their bunkmates and counselors, Cantor Sheera Ben-David, and many family members and friends who Zoomed in, some campers read a few verses from their Parshas while others chose to participate through Torah Blessings, English readings, or just sharing their presence. All campers received the Birkat Kohamin at the Ark. Following this special celebratory service, a Kiddush luncheon was held for the bunks of the participating campers (Bunk 4, Haven 1, Foxes, T-Birds). These campers enjoyed a generous spread of bagels and lox, as well as an array of desserts.

The celebration continued last night with a B’nai Mitzvah party for the whole camp! Campers joined together in the Modin Commons (often referred to as “MoCo”), the spacious tent that we have been using this summer to host socially-distant activities and gatherings, for a night full of festivities and dancing. Outside of the tent campers were greeted by a fleet of food trucks giving out poutine, cotton candy, popcorn, candy apples, and slushies. Also outside the tent was a variety of inflatable games and bounce houses. Meanwhile, inside the tent campers danced the night away, including a full-camp Hoorah where those celebrating their B’nai Mitzvah were raised up in the chair! No B’nai Mitzvah tradition was missed last night, and the ability to celebrate these campers in-person was cherished and enjoyed by all.

Have a peaceful and joyful shabbat!

Molly, Sarah, and Harrison
