In Pursuit of an Ideal Regard for the Individual Dedicated Staff Learning to Live Together History of Modin Our Founders The Experiment Continues Our Jewish Heritage Beauty of Maine Our staff play a fundamental role in the Modin community, and are essential to achieving the goals underlying our philosophy. Each summer, we gather a group of dedicated individuals who’s main objective is to make a positive and memorable contribution to the lives of children. Staff members are professional educators and mature college students who distinguish themselves through individual accomplishment, and by their love and compassion for children. The Modin team returns year after year, many coming up through the ranks as former Modin campers. Our counselors are carefully chosen, highly trained individuals with a wealth of camping and teaching experience. The average age of our general counselors is 20 and the average age of our specialty staff is 24. Typically, cabins have 12 campers and 4 counselors, all of whom live in the bunks. Thus with a 3:1 camper-to-counselor ratio, there is always someone available to talk with children, to offer them guidance and provide comfort and caring. Our staff undergo an extensive 10-day training program prior to the start of each season and we work closely with them at all times. Throughout the summer, an open channel of communication exists between parents, counselors and the camp administration to support the work of Modin.
