In Pursuit of an Ideal Regard for the Individual Dedicated Staff Learning to Live Together History of Modin Our Founders The Experiment Continues Our Jewish Heritage Beauty of Maine The Beauty of Maine. Most children in America live in urban or suburban settings. Despite the availability of lawns and trees, few young people have felt the awe of endless forests or an open night sky. These are the gifts that await us at Modin—a place hidden among majestic mountains and unspoiled landscapes, a place of nature, peace and beauty. The out-of-doors, when one feels free and unencumbered, is not to be equated simply with clean, fresh air. Expanse, mystery and the allure of nature form the basis of any
significant camping experience. The Modin setting was chosen with care. Salmon Lake, on which Modin is located, represents the crown jewel of Maine’s pristine Belgrade Lakes chain, some seventy miles north of Portland. Its calm and sheltered waters present the ideal setting for swimming, boating and exploring. Modin offers an extensive pioneering adventure program. Excursions include day trips to parks and scenic spots, overnight trips to mountains and rivers, and extended ventures into the pristine wilderness of northern Maine. All Modin trips are led by certified trip leaders. Modin teens have the option of participating in trips to destinations throughout New England, as well as Canada. Whether cycling in Acadia National Park, rappelling in Camden State Park, climbing the peaks of Mt. Katahdin, navigating the rapids of the Kennebec River or camping out under an infinite, starlit sky, the Modin camper is able to experience Maine’s natural beauty.
