In Pursuit of an Ideal Regard for the Individual Dedicated Staff Learning to Live Together History of Modin Our Founders The Experiment Continues Our Jewish Heritage Beauty of Maine Exploring our Jewish Heritage. Our mission to build a strong community for our children is not ours alone. It is our Jewish heritage that is the source of the communal values we seek to instill in every child. Specifically, what does this mean at Modin. We are not doctrinaire at Camp. We do not have the one “true” way to feel and know our Jewish inheritance. Ours is a pluralistic community. Some of our campers come from observant homes and others from homes where the Jewish commitment takes the form of concern for the State of Israel, or for the well-being of the Jewish community. Some children have a limited Jewish education and some a great deal more. All are welcome at Modin. The Jewish experience at Modin is an integral part of our daily life our kitchen is Kosher, and a blessing begins and ends each meal. Campers connect to their heritage through Jewish drama, Hebrew music and dance, through discussion and activities, through beautiful outdoor Shabbat services conducted by the children, and through the moving Havdalah service at Sabbath’s end. Campers enrich their Jewish experience by the voluntary study of Hebrew, and by associating with adults who find profound personal meaning in their Jewish values. The time we devote at Modin to Jewish awareness and activity is another way of understanding the joys and responsibilities of being a member of a community.
